Houlton 5/6 AYBL boys win Orrington tournament.

Houlton played in an 8 team 5/6 boys tournament in Orrington on Feb. 13-15. The team ended up playing 3 games in pool play on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009.

Houlton took a 13 point lead early in the third quarter, but the shots stopped falling and Brewer Hoops got hot, canning 3 three pointers in the quarter. Kyle Bouchard hit both ends of a 1 and 1 in the overtime and Daniel Howe scored 4 points to lead Houlton to the victory.

Houlton Black 3/4 girls win the Hampden Bronco 3/4 classic.

Houlton Black 3/4 played in a six team tournament in Hampden on Feb. 21-22 and took home the championship.

Houlton received the #2 seed and played the winner of Hermon and Mt. View on Sunday. Hermon won setting up a rematch for Houlton.

The championship game found Houlton Black going up against Messalonskee trying to avenge their only loss of the tournament by 19 points. Houlton Black knew heading into the title game that it must step up its defense and do a better job rebounding if they were going to be victorious.

The Messalonskee team had been averaging 48 points per game on the season and killed Houlton Black on the boards in the earlier matchup. The outstanding team defense held Messalonskee to only 31 points and the fierce rebounding of Aspen Flewelling led the charge on the boards. Kolleen Bouchard and Kristen Graham led the scoring attack with a combined 36 points. Key screens and defense were added by Rylee Warman, Rebecca and Caroline Mooers, and Jessica Michaud. A great team victory over previously undefeated Messalonskee.
